Apple has released the source code for the low-level system components of the operating system MacOS 14.6 (sonoma). This release includes free software components from Darwin and other programs and libraries unrelated to the GUI. In total, there are 172 packages with source code.
One of the key components now available is the core kernel XNU, whose source code is provided in code snippets related to the upcoming MacOS release. XNU is part of the Darwin open project and features a hybrid core that combines elements from the Mach core, FreeBSD, and the C++ API IOKIT for driver development.
Furthermore, open components used in the mobile platform iOS 17.6 have also been published. This release includes two packages – Webkit and Libiconv.
