In November, the same temperatures are observed in different parts of Russia, for example, in Astrakhan and Salekhard (YaNAO), which creates a temperature paradox. Its reasons were explained to RIA Novosti by the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand.
He noted that in the south of the European part of Russia, the minimum temperatures reached minus 10-12 degrees, in Salekhard – up to minus six. “It turns out to equalize the temperature regime. It is quite homogeneous in the European territory and in the north of Western Siberia,” said the forecaster.
According to him, the temperature is below normal by four to seven degrees in the Southern Federal District and the North Caucasus is associated with the influx of cold masses from the south and southeast. The weather is eight to ten degrees above normal in the north of European territory due to the arrival of warm air from the Atlantic and Western Europe. In Taimyr and Evenkia, the norm is exceeded by 15-20 degrees, in Yamal – by 12-15. In general, all these temperature phenomena are caused by anticyclones, due to which cold air masses from the southeast enter the south and into the center of the European territory.
“Air masses move from east to west, but in the region of Kazakhstan there is already a winter regime, and there is a low temperature. Therefore, the movement of air from the south and southeast leads to the movement of cold air masses,” added Vilfand, adding that such the situation will last about another week.
Earlier, the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center said that a cold snap is expected in the European part of Russia next week. Tuesday and Wednesday will be the coolest days.
