The top Apple smartphone received a reduced capacity battery and a redesigned motherboard. This is reported by the SeekDevice edition.
According to journalists, a photo gallery with a complete disassembly of the iPhone 12 Pro Max was seen in one of the accounts of the Chinese Weibo service. An unknown author dismantled the top flagship and revealed the internal components and characteristics of the device. In particular, he found out that the battery of the smartphone – like that of the 2019 iPhone – is L-shaped. However, the battery capacity has decreased, as became clear from the engraving applied to it – 3687 versus 3969 milliampere-hours for the iPhone 11 Pro Max.
After examining the rest of the details of the most expensive new generation iPhone, the author concluded that the device’s motherboard has become shorter compared to the brand’s earlier flagships. Due to the large size of the main camera, the board had to be not only reduced, but also shifted to the left side of the device.
Journalists from GSMArena, who conducted their own flagship test, drew attention to the capabilities of the updated triple camera. According to them, the camera has indeed received a noticeable upgrade, but some of the patterns inherent in the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max models have been preserved in the new generation. In particular, the smartphone activates a special night mode when shooting with a wide-angle and telescopic lens. While the iPhone 12 Pro Max supports 2.5x optical zoom, when shooting at night, the system most often chooses to use the 2.5x digital zoom and not use the telephoto lens. The reviewers considered this a disadvantage.
In this case, the algorithms of the system independently decide which lens to use depending on the light intensity. For example, on rare occasions, the iPhone 12 Pro Max may drop digital zoom and switch to a telephoto lens.
