Golden Retriever ran away from its owner and lived in forest for a year

The Golden Retriever in the US state of Missouri ran away from its owner and lived in the forest for a year, reports the New York Post.

On November 26, 2019, Kate Olson, who lives in the US state of New Hampshire, celebrated Thanksgiving Day with her family in Arnold, Missouri. Her golden retriever, Walter, allegedly slipped out of the collar and fled into the woods.

After the disappearance of the dog, Olson remained in Missouri for many weeks. She tried to find Walter and posted ads with pictures of the dog. After an unsuccessful search, she returned to the east coast. At home, she began receiving messages from people who saw Walter in the woods.

In January, Olson once again came to Missouri, but even then she could not find a dog. Then the owner of the dog created a Facebook page “Where is Walter?”, Which inspired animal rights activists to continue their search.

By this time, Olson had spent about a thousand dollars (76.2 thousand rubles) on ads and flights between New Hampshire and the city of St. Louis. Ten months passed, and the dog was never found, and the hope of seeing Walter again faded.

On Friday, November 13th, volunteers found Walter and contacted Olson. The American boarded the next flight to St. Louis and reunited with the dog that evening. To help Walter recover from his ordeal, one of Olson’s friends created a veterinary fundraising page on GoFundMe.

Despite the long life in the forest, the dog is doing well. Walter’s mistress posts regularly on his condition on Facebook. “He is still the same sweet boy he was before. Maybe even nicer because he lacked love for so long!” – she said.
