Priests accused of inciting hatred of authorities in Belarus

The General Prosecutor’s Office of Belarus accused two priests of inciting hatred towards government bodies. This is reported in the Telegram -channel of the supervisory authority.

The Prosecutor General’s Office announced official warnings about the inadmissibility of violating the law to the chairman of the Synodal Information Department of the Belarusian Orthodox Church Sergei Lepin and Vicar Bishop of the Minsk-Mogilev Archdiocese Catholic Church Yuri Kosobutsky.

They both criticized the dismantling of the spontaneous memorial of memory Roman Bondarenko . p >

The prosecutor’s office claims that in their statements the priests “in a deliberately categorical aggressive tone” used terms and phrases that increase the level of tension in society and incite hatred of government officials, including law enforcement . As an example, the Prosecutor General’s Office cited phrases from posts such as “mockery of the portraits of the murdered man”, “why is this satanic trampling of lamps and icons”.

Such actions are unacceptable and contradict the constitution, which prohibits representatives of religious organizations from conducting activities “directed against civil consent,” according to the oversight department.

A resident of Minsk, Roman Bondarenko, died in hospital on November 12, where he was taken with numerous injuries from the Central District Department of Internal Affairs of the capital. A spontaneous memorial appeared at the place of his detention, which was eliminated by the security forces on November 15. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko stated that the people’s memorials could become the site of the beginning of the civil war.
