Three French soldiers killed in operation in Mali

The soldiers, who belonged to the 1st regiment of hunters of Thierville-sur-Meuse, died Monday, when their armored vehicle was hit by an explosive device.

Three French soldiers were killed in operation in Mali on Monday, December 28, when their armored vehicle was hit by an explosive device in the region of Hombori, near the border with Burkina Faso, announced the Elysee.

The death of these three soldiers belonging to the 1st regiment of hunters of Thierville-sur-Meuse (Meuse) brings to 47 the number of French soldiers killed in operations “Serval” (2013) and “Barkhane” (since 2014), according to the general staff. A count that does not include accidents.

President Emmanuel Macron expressed in a press release his “very great emotion” after learning of the death of Brigadier-Chief Tanerii Mauri, of the 1st hunter class Quentin Pauchet and fighter 1st class Dorian Issakhanian.

The head of state “greets with the greater respect for the memory of these soldiers, who died for France in the accomplishment of their mission. He associates himself with the grief of their families, their relatives and their brothers in arms and assures them of the recognition and of the solidarity of the Nation, “writes the Elysee. He “expresses his complete confidence in the French soldiers deployed in the Sahel, salutes their courage and recalls France’s determination to continue the fight against terrorism”.
