Mutated coronavirus found near Russian border

The first case of infection with a mutated coronavirus, first detected in the UK, was recorded in Finland, near the border with Russia, reports the Finnish edition Yle, citing local health authorities.

A new mutation of the coronavirus was found in a woman in the southern region of Kymenlaakso, bordering Russia. It is clarified that the patient flew in from the UK. The authorities expect that the new virus will not spread outside the region.

A dangerous mutation of the coronavirus was first discovered in the UK in September, but it began to spread actively in December. More than 20 countries, including Russia, have announced the suspension of transport links with the United Kingdom. However, cases of infection with the new strain have been reported in several countries in Europe, Asia and North America.

The British Advisory Board on New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats said this variant of the coronavirus is spreading faster. According to research by specialists from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, the new strain of coronavirus penetrates more easily into the child’s body.
