Hundreds of British tourists escaped from quarantine in Switzerland

Hundreds of British tourists escaped from quarantine at a ski resort in Switzerland, reports The Local.

In the resort town of Verbier, located in the south of Switzerland, more than 350 British citizens who received an order to undergo compulsory quarantine were missing. The owners of the hotels contacted the police after they found the breakfast trays left by the rooms intact and could not get through to their guests. It is assumed that tourists left the resort in the cover of night.

At the same time, the authorities are not sure where the British could have escaped, because the number of flights from the country was significantly reduced. It is reported that the fine for violation of quarantine can reach 10 thousand Swiss francs (almost 830 thousand rubles).

Earlier it became known that a new mutation of the coronavirus found in the UK in December this year, revealed in Switzerland. Due to the spread of the “British” strain of coronavirus, the Swiss authorities suspended flights with the UK and introduced a mandatory ten-day quarantine for everyone who flew in from the country after December 14.

A dangerous mutation of the coronavirus was first discovered in the UK in September. The mutation has also been identified in patients in several other countries. The British Advisory Board on New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats said this variant of the coronavirus is spreading faster.
