Chapter Ministry of Defense Turkey Hulusi Akar held talks with the internationally recognized Government of National Accord (GNA) in Tripoli, Libya. Anadolu agency writes about it.
The minister said that if the Libyan National Army (LNA) attacks Turkish soldiers, Ankara will attack in response. In this regard, Akar advised the head of the LNA, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, to come to his senses.
“Haftar is a war criminal, a murderer. He and his supporters should know that in the event of any attack on the Turkish military they will turn into a legitimate military target,” the Turkish politician stressed.
The situation in Libya escalated after the LNA announced in April 2020 that it had assumed power in the country. Currently, Haftar’s army is fighting the PNS forces. Turkey is on his side – it helps with equipment, ammunition and air support. The LNA-controlled troops support Egypt and Saudi Arabia, France and the United Arab Emirates are its unofficial allies – the latter, according to some sources, supplied the army with equipment, including equipment purchased from Russia.
