Company “Information Satellite Systems” named after academician M.F. Reshetnev “(ISS, part of the State Corporation” Roscosmos “) and the French company SAFT signed a framework agreement for the supply of highly efficient power supplies. The five-year agreement defines the terms of delivery of French-made lithium-ion batteries for commercial telecommunications satellites, being built by ISS. Power supplies for them will be supplied at fixed prices for the duration of the document.
The new spacecraft will use batteries that have proven themselves in previous projects of the Reshetnevskaya Firm, as well as upgraded power sources with increased specific energy. Its increase in comparison with the earlier version is about seven percent.
The use of modern lithium-ion batteries will provide high energy characteristics of power supply systems for spacecraft without increasing their mass, which will allow it to be redistributed in favor of the payload. To date, 15 spacecraft manufactured by ISS are equipped with power supplies manufactured by SAFT. Lithium-ion batteries for them were supplied under previously signed agreements.
