Putin signed a law on return of sobering-up centers

The President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed a law on the return of sobering-up stations. The corresponding document is published on the official Internet portal of legal information.

The law gives police officers the right to deliver drunk people to special sobering-up centers, created on the basis of medical, social and municipal institutions.

The document says that due to the severity of the situation in some Russian regions, the creation of specialized municipal or regional institutions began to provide assistance to Russians who are in public places in a state of alcoholic intoxication and do not have the ability to independently move or navigate in the environment setting.

December 25 Federation Council approved the law on the revival of the sobering-up system in Russia. From the beginning of 2021, the regions will have the right to create medical sobering-up centers “on the principles of partnership with private organizations.” The average price of a night in such an institution will be about 1.5 thousand rubles.

The sobering-up stations were liquidated in 2011 during the reform Ministry of Internal Affairs . The work with drunk citizens was delegated to hospitals. In several Russian regions there are sobering-up centers based on medical, social and other institutions, but their activity is not legally regulated.
