Chapter Russian Foreign Ministry Sergei Lavrov assessed the development of relations between Russia and the United States under the elected American President Joe Biden . He stated this in an interview with RIA Novosti .
“Unfortunately, one cannot count on an early rectification or even stabilization of the degrading relations with the United States. The anti-Russian hysteria that has swept America leaves little chance that we will soon see a return to normalcy,” the diplomat admitted.
Lavrov called the relationship between Russia and the United States a hostage of intra-American strife. In his opinion, this is not conducive to constructive cooperation.
At the same time, the minister acknowledged that Russian-American relations still have potential, and Moscow will strive to develop them. He recalled that this also requires a response from Washington.
On December 15, it became known that the candidate from Democratic Party Joe Biden received the electoral college votes needed to win the presidential race. The current American leader Donald Trump has repeatedly refused to admit defeat. He believes Biden lost the election “by a wide margin.”
