December 29, 2000 Alexey Novodvorsky announced the creation of the Sisyphus project, describing it as follows :
Sisyphus is forever unstable, will never reach release. Sometimes
installed, sometimes not. Actually, this is our current job,
which, perhaps, will be interesting and useful to someone. Fundamental
the difference from the devel directory that has ceased to exist is that
that the picture becomes more complete for you, it is possible, with persistence and
luck, install / build the latest versions, get patches and just
take part in a common cause.
Over the past two decades, work on sisyphus has led to significant improvements in the basic rpm and apt-rpm , creating an original build infrastructure ( hasher , gear , girar ), developing approaches to creating stable repositories and preparing releases based on them (and sisyphus!).
Many people came to participate in team ; many of them have already left it for one reason or another, but still left their own trace in this living monument to the works of Russian hackers. And when suddenly they needed domestic products, at least one of them was already ready and able to go further on its own.
