The President of Argentina Alberto Fernandez explained the criticism of the Russian vaccine against coronavirus. One of the reasons for the pressure is the geopolitical struggle, he said in an interview with TV Publica.
“We must take into account the unfolding trade war. In addition, since the world is eager to get a vaccine, there is also a geopolitical struggle for the title of who will provide it. It seems to me that this is exactly what we are seeing in the case of the Russian vaccine,” Fernandez quotes TASS .
The politician added that the production of the drug is a business where deals worth millions of dollars are made. It’s a tough and sometimes even dirty fight over these deals, he admitted. In response to criticism, the Argentine president said that while the authorities of different countries are trying to find at least some amount of the drug, Buenos Aires and Moscow have agreed to supply 300 thousand doses.
Vaccination with Sputnik V in Argentina began December 29. Local authorities registered the Russian vaccine on December 23rd. Prior to that, Buenos Aires signed a contract for the supply of ten million doses of the Russian drug. Fernandez noted that he would be the first to be vaccinated with the Russian vaccine and did not doubt the quality of the drug.
