The Peruvian government has launched a dialogue with representatives of these employees, two days after the death of three of them in clashes with the police.

The Peruvian government launched on Friday January 1 st a dialogue with representatives of agricultural workers who demonstrated throughout the month of December to get their wages raised.
At the end of December, hundreds of workers blocked a major road in northern Peru in support of their demands. During clashes between demonstrators and police on Wednesday, three civilians were killed. After two days of roadblocks and clashes, the Pan-American Highway was unblocked and it remains under police surveillance.
“Dialogue Commission”
The Council of Ministers announced on Friday on Twitter that a “dialogue commission” had started its work in Trujillo, a town in northwestern Peru, capital of the La Libertad region, about 500 kilometers north of Lima.
The ministers of labor, agrarian development and foreign trade, as well as the governor of La Libertad, had discussions with representatives of employees and local parliamentarians.
After seven hours of discussions, the participants decided to work out within 45 days an amendment to the agrarian law adopted by Parliament on Tuesday. This law which has aroused the anger of agricultural workers was formalized by its publication Thursday in the Official Journal.
