President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko noted the contribution of “people in uniform” to security republics. He spoke about this in the New Year’s address to citizens, the text of which is quoted by BelTA.
According to him, law enforcement officials have successfully defended statehood.
“People in uniform warned our enemies: the defense of the state, public security will be ensured resolutely and without hesitation!”, – said the head of state.
Lukashenka also called the past year bright and unique. According to him, 2020 made Belarusians look for answers to “eternal questions”: “Who are we?”, “What will happen to us, our children?”, “Where are we going?” and “What do we want?” According to the Belarusian leader, many want to see the country as it was a year ago. However, according to him, there is no time “to go back and go through the past.” “We will definitely create the Belarus of the future, and it will be better than the current one,” he stressed.
“For the sake of preserving it for children, let’s turn the page of what we have covered and together we will write a new chapter of independent Belarus,” Lukashenko noted.
At the end of December last year, Lukashenko, during a speech in front of the Minsk OMON detachment called a > the condition of his resignation. “Until the last riot policeman tells me to leave, I will stand tightly in this country,” Lukashenka said. He noted that “intrigues” against his regime are being built in “warm foreign offices”, and added that the opposition does not want the benefit of the Belarusian society.
In Belarus, for the fifth month, mass protests have continued after the presidential elections on August 9. Protest actions are harshly suppressed by the security forces. Tens of thousands of people were detained, many of them told about torture and beatings in isolation wards. Four people were killed during clashes with security forces.
