New “South African” strain of coronavirus reaches France

A new strain of coronavirus detected in December in the Republic of South Africa (South Africa) reached France: the Ministry of Health of the republic discovered the first case of infection, reports RIA Novosti .

The virus was detected in a man who returned to the country from South Africa. Infectionists have confirmed that he has the “South African” strain 501.V2.

“The man was immediately isolated at home as soon as symptoms appeared. Now he is healthy and feels well,” the department said. Experts found out with whom he communicated after his return, but “no contacts posing risks were recorded.”

Also, the first cases of infection with the 501.V2 virus were detected in Switzerland.

Earlier, the authorities of the Republic of South Africa (South Africa) took a decision to ban the sale alcohol and the closure of bars due to the rise in coronavirus infections.

A new mutation of the coronavirus was discovered in South Africa in mid-December. South African scientists have identified a previously unknown SARS-CoV-2 virus called 501.V2. The South African Minister of Health emphasized that the second wave of coronavirus in the country is probably associated with this particular mutation of the disease. This strain is different from the coronavirus mutation found in the UK and subsequently in other countries.
