The Chinese authorities confirmed, Thursday, December 31, to detain for “terrorism” Gulshan Abbas, a Uighur doctor, disappeared in detention there is two years. Her family in the United States had just announced the day before that she had been sentenced to twenty years in prison in China.

Information that the spokesman for the Chinese foreign ministry, Wang Wenbin, confirmed in these words: “Gulshan Abbas was sentenced under the law by the Chinese judicial bodies for participating in organized terrorism, aiding terrorist activities and seriously undermining social order.” According to her family, it is his activism in favor of the Uyghur cause which would be at the origin of his condemnation.

As a warning to the regular denunciations to which Beijing is the object on the international scene concerning this Muslim community, he added: “We call on American politicians to respect the facts, to stop fabricating lies defaming China and to refrain from using the issue of Xinjiang [Chinese province where the Uighurs are from] to interfere with the business of the China. “

An extradition treaty that worries

The Chinese government ratified, Saturday, December 26, an extradition treaty with Turkey, thinking of using it to speed up the return of Uighurs exiled in the country and suspected of “terrorism” in China. While Turkey has not ratified the treaty and assured that it will not return Uighurs to China, the Chinese announcement has raised great concern among members of this Muslim community, persecuted in their country.

Human rights organizations accuse Beijing of having interned at least a million Muslims in Xinjiang in “re-education camps” that China wants call it “vocational training centers”.

According to the testimony of the doctor’s sister, Rushan Abbas, Gulshan Abbas, who speaks fluent Mandarin, was arrested in September 2018.
