The “cruising speed” will “join that of our neighbors in the coming days”, assured the Minister of Health, who also announced the expansion of vaccination from today to firefighters and home helpers over 50.
Le Monde
Criticized for the slowness of the vaccination campaign in France, the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, announced on Tuesday 5 January on RTL , the government’s desire to” amplify, accelerate and simplify “the vaccination strategy. The “cruising speed” will “join that of our neighbors in the coming days”, he assured.
Thus, in addition to residents in accommodation establishments for dependent elderly people (Ehpad ) and caregivers over 50, the government wants to authorize the vaccination of over 75s who live at home before the end of January. According to the plan initially established, this category of the population was not affected by vaccination until February or March.

In addition, vaccination will be extended from Tuesday morning to firefighters and home helpers over 50 years old. In addition to this broadening of socio-professional categories, the government wishes to speed up vaccination in nursing homes and start it as soon as possible “where residents are ready”.
Simplified procedures
For this, vaccination consultations will be simplified and nurses in particular will be authorized to vaccinate, “not necessarily in the presence of a doctor”. The country will also increase the number of vaccination centers, currently numbering 100. There will be 300 next week and 600 by the end of January, said Mr. Véran.
In addition, French people wishing to be vaccinated will be able, from Thursday, to register on a file in order to make themselves known. Details regarding this file are expected to be communicated at a press conference on Thursday.
In parallel, the Vaccine orders will be increased: 500,000 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine will be received per week, and 500,000 doses of Moderna vaccine will also be available per month. By Wednesday afternoon, a million doses will be available, said Véran.
