Authorities of St. Petersburg announced possibility of three waves of coronavirus after holidays

St. Petersburg authorities warned about the possibility of three waves of coronavirus infections after the New Years. This was stated by the vice-governor Evgeny Elin , he is quoted by ” Fontanka “.

According to him, during the holidays, the number of hospitalizations in the region decreased by 30 percent, which the official himself associated with finding people at home. Despite this, he admitted that it is too early to calm down.

“This is the effect of the holidays. Everything is calm with our beds now (…). Let’s see what happens after the New Year, after Christmas and after people return from holidays,” added the vice-governor. Yelin urged residents to stay at home, comply with anti-coronavirus restrictions, walk less and, if possible, not hug.

St. Petersburg is in second place after Moscow in the number of people infected with coronavirus and in the number of deaths. There are more than 3.7 thousand infected people in the city. Over the past 24 hours, 80 residents of the city have died from complications.

The city authorities were forced to significantly limit the work of restaurants and bars, including during the New Year and during the holidays. Also, water parks and aquariums, ice skating rinks, exhibitions, museums, theaters operating in the buildings of shopping and entertainment centers were temporarily closed.
