The Kommersant newspaper at the end of December 2020 wrote about a possible change the leadership of “Gazprom”, citing their own sources. The publication indicated that Miller’s five-year contract expires in May 2021 and there are no plans to renew it.
Rumors about the possible resignation of the head of the company have been circulating for several years, but this time they are being fueled by the poor financial situation of Gazprom, the newspaper wrote. According to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in January-September, the company’s loss amounted to 202 billion rubles against a profit of 1.1 trillion a year earlier.
The newspaper wrote that the final point in Miller’s career as Gazprom should be the completion of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. At the end of last year, the company completed the laying of pipes in the exclusive economic zone of Germany. However, in January 2021 it became known that the project faced a new problem – the Norwegian company DNV GL refused certify the pipeline due to the threat of US sanctions.
