WHO explained scale of spread of “British” strain of coronavirus

World Health Organization (WHO) spoke about the scale of the spread of the “British” strain of coronavirus which can be 70 percent more infectious. The mutation has already been found in 41 countries and territories around the world, reports TASS .

As of January 5, VOC-202012/01, originally identified in the UK, has been found in 40 more states, territories and areas. It is noted that the new strain has been identified in five of the six WHO regions.

In addition, the coronavirus strain, dubbed 501Y.V2, which originally came from South Africa, has been identified in six other territories and countries.

On January 4, the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the introduction of third national quarantine due to the coronavirus pandemic. He stated that the new strain of coronavirus is spreading at an “alarming rate”.
