In the city of Bytebridge (Zimbabwe), a crocodile tore a man who was trying to cross the South African border. The local edition of The Newshawks reported this in Twitter .
A local resident told The Newshawks in Bytebridge that her relative disappeared while crossing the Limpopo River, which separates Zimbabwe and South Africa. “Only his head was found on the bank,” she says. “Beware, do not cross the river downstream, it’s dangerous.”
Hundreds of Zimbabweans illegally cross the border in the Bytebridge area every day. Some use the services of smugglers who transport people in canoes for 200 rand (960 rubles), writes SABC News. Other migrants walk across the Alfred Beit Bridge.
In December, The Herald newspaper (Zimbabwe) reported that one of the migrants who tried to cross the “Alfreud Beit” through the service passage fell into the water and miraculously survived. “She was lucky, because usually there are full of crocodiles, sometimes there are hippos,” – quoted the publication of a representative of the border service.
In 2019, it was reported that a resident of the Zimbabwean village of Silobela, Midlands province, died in the mouth of a man-eating crocodile while trying to help a friend retrieve a fishing rod entangled in the reeds. The man lost his balance and fell into the water, where he was immediately attacked by a reptile.
