Russian President Vladimir Putin demanded from the prosecutor’s office to toughly suppress corruption. He stated this in an appeal to the workers and veterans of the supervisory authority in connection with their professional holiday, reports TASS.
Efforts should be stepped up in the fight against extremism, crime, and corruption and misuse of the budget should be tackled, ”he said. Putin noted that the prosecutors have enough powers for this.
On December 8, the head of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, said that over a year in Russia more than 2.3 billion rubles were collected for crimes of a corruption nature, the property of the accused was arrested in the amount of more than 8.1 billion rubles. If you add up the amount recovered, the cost of the arrested property and what has already been taken from the accused, then the result covers 80 percent of the damage caused. According to Bastrykin, in total, since 2011, almost 34 billion rubles have been returned to the state and victims of such crimes.
In March 2020, Putin demanded that the Prosecutor General’s Office begin to cooperate more closely with the Federal Bailiff Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Rosfinmonitoring and the tax service to return the illegally acquired property. “To put it simply, assets and funds stolen from our country, from people, from society,” the president specified then.
