In the Scottish district of Dumfries and Galloway, a domestic cocker poodle dog fell into an icy lake and died in agony in front of its owner. The Daily Record newspaper reports.
On January 9, 38-year-old Jennifer McLean with her 33-year-old husband Scott and three-year-old daughter Zara walked their pet named Luke near the lake. The dog, who was not tethered, noticed swans in the ice-covered reservoir, chased them and fell into the cold water. Jennifer immediately called the emergency services.
The rescue team arrived 45 minutes later, but by that time, four-year-old Luke had already died. “They gave him artificial respiration, defibrillation of the heart, tried to saturate the blood with oxygen, and also warmed him, but nothing helped, – says Jennifer. – The husband and his friend took the dog to the veterinary clinic in Lockerbie, where they also tried to resuscitate him. But it was already too late. “
Jennifer admitted that she still cannot recover from psychological trauma. “For about half an hour we literally saw and heard him die, but we couldn’t do anything,” says Luke’s owner. “I can’t believe it all happened like this.”
Earlier it was reported that in the US state of North Carolina, three dogs died after swimming in a flowered reservoir. A resident of the city of Wilmington, Melissa Martin, said on Facebook that after returning from a walk, her pets started having seizures. The veterinarian found signs of blue-green algae poisoning in the animals.
