President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that the country has a “normal situation” in terms of the development of democratic processes, and recalled the protests in the United States. Telegram-channel “Sputnik Near Abroad” reports about it.
“Our protesters and other disaffected people do not storm government offices and capitols,” Lukashenko explained the discontent of “certain politicians” in the European Union, assessing the level of democracy in Belarus.
He added that they want to accuse him of defending his country and his people. “But I was elected for this,” the president said.
Earlier, Lukashenka said that he and his Russian colleague Vladimir Putin were “tightly herded” into one team in the political arena.
The storming of the US Capitol building took place on January 6 during a rally of supporters of the incumbent head of state Donald Trump, who do not recognize the results of the November vote, which resulted in the election of Democrat Joseph Biden as president. The rallies led to clashes with the police. Five people died, dozens were detained.
