The winner of the early presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov announced his intention to establish a “dictatorship of law and justice” in the country. Interfax reports.
Zhaparov called on other presidential candidates to unity and work together. “After taking office in full, the president intends to consult with other presidential candidates on the development of the state,” he promised.
The politician added that no one took responsibility for the independent 30-year history of Kyrgyzstan, “pursuing personal selfish goals.” “The time has come to put an end to clan rule in the country. From today, steps are beginning to develop the state,” he stressed.
On January 10, early presidential elections and a referendum to determine the form of government were held in Kyrgyzstan. They passed with a record low turnout – less than 40 percent. According to the results of manual counting of 90.95 percent of ballots, Japarov is in the lead with 81.56 percent of the vote. A total of 17 candidates participated in the elections.
In October 2020, President Sooronbai Jeenbekov resigned amid protests in Kyrgyzstan that began after the parliamentary elections. Japarov, who was released from custody by the participants of the rallies, temporarily took over his duties.
