Bergamot named as a product to fight cancer cells

Scientists from the University of Calabria and the University of Salford have named bergamot a product capable of destroying cancer stem cells without harming healthy cells. They came to this conclusion as a result of research, the results of which are published in the publication Bioenergetics.

Scientists have found that bergamot contains the substances brutyeridin and melitidine, which effectively suppress cholesterol enzymes, and also contribute to the death and cessation of division of cancer stem cells. However, unlike statins used in medicine, bergamot has no side effect.

According to the researchers, on this basis, bergamot can be used as a basis for the creation of new non-toxic drugs.

Earlier it was reported that scientists at Tel Aviv University in Israel have discovered that the CRISPR-Cas9 system is an effective agent against metastatic cancer. Researchers have developed lipid particles that target tumor cells and carry with them RNA molecules encoding molecular scissors.
