President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko spoke about the future of the country’s new constitution in a conversation with Naila Asker-zade on the Russia 1 channel. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Lukashenko said that amendments to the constitution can be indicated at the upcoming All-Belarusian People’s Assembly, but adopted only at a referendum. At the same time, the politician refused to disclose the details of the draft document, noting only that the changes will affect the political structure of the state, and not the economy.
“In the economy, we will leave the proposal so that we have a socially oriented state,” Lukashenko explained.
According to him, the draft of the new constitution will be ready by the end of next year.
As the agency notes, work is already underway in the republic on the third version of the draft document, since the previous two did not suit the head of state.
Earlier, Lukashenka announced that he would resign from the presidency after the adoption of a new constitution. “I am not making any constitution for myself. I will not work with you as president with the new constitution,” he said.
