Ten newborns died in a hospital fire in the Indian state of Maharashtra, reports the NDTV channel.
The tragedy happened late at night in the building where the sick children were. A nurse noticed smoke from the neonatal ward and reported it to staff as well as firefighters. Seven newborns were saved. It is noted that the cause of the accident in the city of Bhandara, most likely, was a short circuit.
Indian Prime Minister Nrarendra Modi expressed his condolences to the families of the children killed in the fire and called the incident a “heartbreaking tragedy”.
Earlier it was reported that six people, including three children, died a > during a fire in the Chuvash village of Ornary. Early in the morning on January 1, Emergencies Ministry received a message about a fire in a house on Oktyabrskaya Street.
