Most Americans saw storming of Capitol as a threat to democracy

Most American voters saw the storming of the Capitol on January 6 as a threat to democracy. This is evidenced by the data of a survey of 1397 people conducted by the international Internet company YouGov.

Thus, 93 percent of Democrats considered what happened as a threat to democracy, and the majority of neutral voters joined them – 55 percent. However, only 27 Republicans supported their opinion. On average, 63 percent of those surveyed spoke negatively about the storming of the Capitol.

At the same time, 21 percent of respondents, that is, one in five, said they support what is happening during the riots. This opinion, based on the survey data, is especially inclined to those who consider the results of the presidential elections in the United States to be falsified.

In addition, 55 percent of respondents blamed the US President for the riots Donald Trump a >, and 42 percent are Republican senators who have declared their intention to vote against confirming the election results. Another 17 percent found the elected Democratic President Joseph Biden guilty.

Earlier, Trump wrote that he condemned the actions of the protesters during the storming of the Capitol and stressed that the protesters will pay for what happened. He also noted that he will now focus on a painless transfer of power to Biden.

On January 6, Republican protesters stormed the Capitol building and surrounded the Senate Hall. The Senate and the House of Representatives interrupted a meeting at which it was planned to approve the results of the last elections. According to this data, Biden won the presidential election. During the protests, four people were killed and the police detained nearly 70 rioters.
