An infectious disease specialist estimated required number of vaccinated Russians

Infectionist Irina Shestakova assessed the number of vaccinated people needed to return to their previous lifestyle Russians. The President of the International Association of Specialists in the Field of Infection, the former chief freelance specialist Ministry of Health infectious diseases told RIA Novosti .

Shestakova noted that if by the fall of 2021 more than half of Russia’s residents are vaccinated, then the number of coronavirus cases will significantly decrease and, consequently, healthcare will be relieved. According to her, from that moment on, life more or less normalizes.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golikova said that the authorities hope that all Russians in the near future will be able to choose which vaccine to vaccinate against coronavirus. When asked whether the Russians will have the opportunity to choose a drug with the advent of each new vaccine, Golikova answered in the affirmative. “Probably, it will not be in January, but in the first quarter we hope that it will be so,” the Deputy Prime Minister explained.

There are currently several COVID-19 vaccines in the world. Thus, two vaccines are registered in Russia: Sputnik V and EpiVacCorona. On December 5, Moscow started vaccination against coronavirus with Sputnik V. The USA and Great Britain also began to inoculate the population with the drug companies Pfizer / BioNTech. In addition, the drug developed by Moderna was approved in the country. British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca has also announced the start of clinical trials for a combination of its AZD1222 vaccine.
