Federation Council explained finding of head of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in service of nationalists

Senator from Crimea Sergei Tsekov told that the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba is in the service of the nationalists. A member of the Federation Council international affairs committee told about this RIA Novosti .

Tsekov, commenting on the threat of Kuleba to make the Crimean theme “hellish” for Russia, noted that such statements are addressed to “an inadequate and aggressive part of the Ukrainian people.” According to him, the nationalists prevailed in Ukraine, and Kuleba and many of the circle of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky are in the service of this particular part of the Ukrainian society. The parliamentarian also added that the head of MFA of Ukraine thus “fulfills orders” coming from other states, in particular the United States.

Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba threatened in 2021 to initiate international sanctions against Russia on the status of the Crimean peninsula. According to him, the main lever of pressure on Moscow should be the so-called “Crimean Platform” – an international negotiating platform for the return of the peninsula to Kiev’s authority.

The Russian senator reacted to the statement soon the Russian senator Alexey Pushkov . He noted that Kiev has no opportunity to put pressure on Moscow. Pushkov added that Ukraine hopes for tougher anti-Russian sanctions from the United States. “Such a development of events is possible, but it will also not lead to changes in the status of Crimea,” the senator stressed.

Official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova also responded to Kuleba’s threat. “A statement from the underworld,” she wrote on a social network, citing one of the headlines of the media with the statement of the head of the Ukrainian foreign ministry.

Crimea was reunited with Russia after the March 2014 referendum, in which the majority of the residents of the peninsula who voted supported this decision. Kiev refused to recognize the results of the referendum. Russia insists that the accession procedure was in accordance with international law.
