Senator Alexey Pushkov invited the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba to hang the flag of his countries on the balcony, not in Simferopol. He stated this to the newspaper “Vzglyad” , commenting on Kiev’s threats to increase the sanctions pressure on Russia “on the Crimean issue”, as well as turn this topic into “hellish” in 2021.
According to Pushkov, Kiev has no opportunity to put pressure on Moscow. He noted that Ukraine hopes for tougher anti-Russian sanctions from America. “Such a development of events is possible, but it will also not lead to changes in the status of Crimea,” the senator stressed.
He called the stay of Crimea as part of Ukraine a historical incident and noted that therefore Kuleba’s dreams that “one day the day will come when the Ukrainian flag will be raised in Simferopol” are unrealizable. The issue of Crimea, according to Pushkov, is closed.
Earlier, Kuleba threatened in 2021 to initiate strengthening of international sanctions against Russia on the issue of the status of the Crimean peninsula. According to him, the main lever of pressure on Moscow should be the so-called “Crimean Platform” – an international negotiating platform for the return of the peninsula to Kiev’s authority.
