Ukraine has decided to purchase a vaccine against coronavirus produced by the Chinese company Sinovac Biotech. The Ministry of Health signed a contract for the supply of the drug as soon as possible, reports Wednesday, 30 November, ” Interfax – Ukraine”.
“The contract was signed with the Ukrainian pharmaceutical company Lekhim JSC, which, according to the official confirmation of Sinovac Biotech, is the only authorized representative of the vaccine manufacturer in Ukraine. We are talking about the purchase of 1.8 million doses at a price of UAH 504 per dose”, – declared in the office of the president.
Sinovac Biotech (CoronaVac) vaccine is produced in a syringe and stored at temperatures between 2-8 degrees Celsius. Interim results from clinical trials have shown that the drug is up to 97 percent effective.
In January, permission must be issued for the use of the vaccine in China and other countries, for prequalification in WHO it will be presented in February. The first batch of the drug in the amount of 700 thousand doses will be delivered to Ukraine within 30 days after official registration.
The President Vladimir Zelensky noted that the contract was signed with an experienced vaccine manufacturer, negotiations with other reliable manufacturers are ongoing. The delivery is not related to the COVAX mechanism, according to which Ukraine is guaranteed to receive 8 million doses free of charge.
