The Chinese group Sinopharm announced, Wednesday, December 30, that one of its vaccines against Covid-19 was 79.43% effective, a figure lower than those claimed by its competitors Pfizer-BioNTech (95%) and Moderna (94.1%). Sinopharm is the first Chinese pharmacist to report figures on the effectiveness of a vaccine in preparation, developed in Beijing by the CNBG laboratory.

China, where the new coronavirus has appeared there a year ago, has put enormous resources into the development of vaccines, which she promised to make “a global public good”. The country, which has practically stopped the epidemic on its soil, has had to conduct clinical trials in countries where the circulation of the virus remains intense.

Five Chinese vaccines are currently in phase 3 clinical trials. Sinopharm has not specified whether these trials have been completed for this first vaccine. The group announced that it had filed an application for approval of this first vaccine with the Chinese authorities. More than a million people have already been vaccinated in China with products that the authorities have not yet formally validated.
