Fugitive oligarch and former chairman of Democratic Party Moldova Vladimir Plahotnyuk , who controlled the entire country, became a citizen of Turkey. This information was confirmed by the Moldovan Prosecutor General Alexander Stoyanoglo, reports “KP – Moldova”.
According to him, Turkish citizenship can affect the fate of the criminal case against the oligarch. “We are considering different aspects of bringing both Plahotniuc and Shor to criminal liability. The fact that they are in another jurisdiction does not mean that they cannot be prosecuted,” Stoyanoglo said.
Earlier, Prosecutor General’s Office announced that it had been notified by Ankara that Plahotniuc left Turkish territory.
Plahotniuc was called the richest and most influential person in Moldova. Last summer, his party ceased to be ruling. After the escape of the oligarch in Moldova, they began to investigate his activities. In November 2019, he was arrested in absentia.
The former president Igor Dodon claimed that Plahotniuc was hiding in the United States, which through him they can influence the Moldovan politics. At the same time, in June 2020, published a record of Dodon’s negotiations with the fugitive oligarch.
