The waves threw thousands of mysterious jelly-like balls onto the seashore near the US city of Los Angeles, California. The Evening Standard reports.
According to state park police officer Danielle Snyder, the balls covered the entire beach. “I’ve worked on this beach for 30 years and have never seen them before,” she says. “This is definitely something rare.”
The balls turned out to be ctenophores of the genus Pleurobrachia, which in English are called sea gooseberries. These are small marine animals with cilia ridges that serve for locomotion. They are an important part of the European herring diet.
Previously it was reported that a beach full of people in the United States was taken out huge poisonous hairy cyanide. The local wildlife and recreational department had to issue a purple warning, indicating a dangerous animal was in the water.
