Police in Columbus, Ohio have decided to immediately fire an officer named Adam Coy who shot an unarmed black man reports NBC News.
“I witnessed this dangerous misconduct when I watched [the police officer’s] body camera. I saw everything I need to see in order to conclude that Officer Koy should be fired immediately. This violation cost an innocent person’s life.” Police Chief Thomas Kinlan said.
The victim of the incident, which took place three days earlier, was 47-year-old black man Andre Hill. The incident happened at night, when the latter was standing at the garage of the house of his friends, to whom he came to visit. Officer Adam Coy and his partner saw the African American and demanded him to stop, probably mistaking him for a robber. Then the policeman aimed a flashlight at Hill – he was clutching something in his right hand. The black man approached the policemen and Coy fired. Later it turned out that the man had no weapons.
Hill’s assassination caused a wide resonance, large protests began in the city. This is the second similar case in the city since the beginning of the month: before that, the deputy of the sheriff shot and killed the African American Casey Goodson literally on the doorstep of his house.
