The strangers raised more than 20 thousand pounds (2 million rubles) for a 94-year-old miner from the English city of Horden, County Durham, whose house was robbed by hijackers. The Daily Mail reports.
Early Tuesday morning, 94-year-old Ted Green woke up at his home, which is located among the buildings of a former mine, and saw that his house was being robbed. He screamed and the robbers fled the scene.
The man discovered that his pension, house keys and car keys were missing. The robbers also stole objects that were dear to the Englishman as a memory, including a miner’s lamp.
He called his daughter, 54-year-old Sandra Hawkins, and she immediately rushed to help. “When I saw what happened, I burst into tears. I could not believe that someone could do this to another person, especially an elderly and vulnerable,” she said.
Hawkins’ son Jordan described the aftermath of the Facebook heist to see if anyone had information and received a lot of feedback from users. Jordan’s gym set up a fundraising page and soon raised over £ 21,000 in donations.
Local residents offered to help Green replace broken windows and change locks. In his garage, they helped him change the car keys.
Police have arrested two robbery suspects, 25, 26 and 45.
Previously it was reported that thieves robbed the house of a family from the English city of Wolverhampton, County of West Midlands, who at the time was at the funeral of her four-week-old son. When the mourners returned, they found that thieves had broken into their home and made a mess.
