Families of those killed from complications caused by coronavirus infection in Italy demanded the government to pay compensation, reports Reuters .
The Italians believe that the country’s authorities were unable to quickly respond to the epidemiological threat in February 2020, when the first outbreak began in Lombardy. According to the relatives of the victims, the government did not take serious enough measures that could save people.
A lawsuit was filed by about 500 people who demand compensation in the amount of 100 million euros (122 million dollars). The defendants are Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, head of Ministry of Health Roberto Speranza and Governor of Lombardy Attilio Fontana. The prosecution calls the lawsuit “a Christmas present for those who did not do what was required.”
In May it was reported that dozens of Americans and several companies in the US are trying sue China for the spread of the coronavirus. According to them, the PRC authorities allegedly did not do enough to initially eliminate the virus and tried to hide what was happening in Wuhan.
