Another strain of coronavirus was discovered in Nigeria, reports News24 citing the director of the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) John Nkengasong.
According to him, the virus mutation is different from the one found in the UK. At the same time, he noted that the new type of coronavirus is partly similar to that identified in South Africa. Nkengasong said that it is too early to talk about the distinctive features of this strain. At the same time, he stressed that, according to preliminary results, this mutation is less infectious than the South African one.
Earlier it was reported that in South Africa discovered a new mutation of the coronavirus. South African scientists have identified a previously unknown species of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the country. The South African Minister of Health stressed that the second wave of coronavirus in the country is probably associated with this particular mutation of the disease.
