The murder took place on the morning of December 17 at a hospital in Lancaster, California, where both men were being treated for COVID-19. According to investigators, 37-year-old Jesse Martinez hit his 82-year-old neighbor with an oxygen cylinder when he began to pray. The victim passed away the next day. Before hospitalization, the men did not know each other.

At the same time, the number of hospital beds in the state is rapidly declining.
Also in California prepared refrigerators and bags for the bodies of those who died from complications, caused by the coronavirus. The authorities ordered 5,000 body bags and 60 refrigerators. They will be located near hospitals. California Governor Gavin Newsom says the state is currently going through what is arguably the most intense phase since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
