A resident of Singapore went to jail for lying about having sex with his wife. As AsiaOne reports, he lied to get the right to annul his marriage.
25-year-old Daryl Lim Chun Len and 24-year-old Wang Kechen got married in January 2017. A few months later, Wang learned that her husband had a mistress. Lim suggested annulling the marriage as it was cheaper than divorce. Another advantage was that after the cancellation they would not have divorce status.
With Wang’s consent, the man went to a law firm to annul the marriage. He called the reason for this the wife’s deliberate refusal to fulfill her marital duty. In August 2017, the court agreed to annul the marriage. All the necessary formalities were settled by December of the same year.
It was later revealed that Lim was lying, and in fact, he and his wife had sex several times. During the investigation, it turned out that sexual relations between them continued after the annulment of the marriage. AsiaOne notes that court documents do not specify how this was established.
Lim was accused of giving deliberately false testimony before the court. In Singapore, such an act can be punished with a fine or imprisonment for up to two years. On Tuesday, December 22, the man was sentenced to seven days in prison.
In 2014 it was reported that in Dubai the Sharia court ruled to divorce a couple due to the fact that the wife was “possessed by the genie.” The husband complained about his wife’s malicious refusals to fulfill his marital duty.
