A resident of the English city of Widnes, Cheshire, on his wedding day, won a large sum of money thanks to a tote bet, which he forgot about, reports the Liverpool Echo.
57-year-old retired warehouse worker Richard Purcell was shocked when he learned that he won 10 thousand pounds (million rubles) on his wedding day on Sunday, December 19. The Englishman suddenly became rich thanks to a bet on a sports betting of 25 pounds (2.5 thousand rubles), which he forgot about.
He didn’t know about the win until he checked for updates on his phone after the wedding ceremony. “I was so busy with the wedding that I didn’t check the results until I saw the winnings in my account. I used to bet on the sweepstakes, but I won only on small things,” he said.
The man said that he and his wife will find a worthy use for the money. They booked a hotel in Chester for their honeymoon. “Despite the hardships faced by all the people in the country, we will have a very special Christmas,” said wife Parcella, school cafeteria employee Victoria.
Parcell has two grown children and his wife has an 11-year-old son.
Earlier it was reported that a resident of the US city of Tacoma, Washington, won in the lottery for the 30th wedding anniversary. The winner decided to spend the prize money to celebrate the anniversary.
