Pavel Myasoedov, partner and director of Intellectual Reserve, spoke about ways to steal data from a SIM card. His words are quoted by the Prime agency.
According to the expert, a fraudster can call the operator, introduce himself as the owner, report the loss of the SIM card and answer security questions, the answers to which he will find on the user’s social networks. After that, the operator disconnects the real SIM card, and the attacker gets a new one with full access to the number and all the information that comes to him.
In addition, theft of data from a SIM card is possible using remote access. Myasoedov said that a message with a technical code is sent to the user’s device, and after opening the attacker gets access to calls, messages and even the owner’s location.
The expert urged to listen to the operators’ recommendations and regularly update the firmware and programs on your device.
Previously, General Director of ANO Digital Platforms Arseny Shcheltsin reported that the deterioration in the quality of communication, the exhausted limit of contacts on the phone and the lack of 4G support are sure signs of that the SIM card needs to be replaced. The expert advised to renew the SIM card once or twice a year and change it when buying a new phone. “New formats microSIM, miniSIM or nanoSIM are selected specifically for the device,” Shcheltsin added.
