Johnson assesses danger of more contagious type of COVID-19

The Prime Minister of Great Britain Boris Johnson assessed the danger of a more infectious type of COVID- 19 discovered in the country last week. He announced this at a press conference, a record of which was published in Twitter -the politician’s account.

According to him, the new genetic variant of SARS-CoV-2 may be 70 percent more infectious. He added that to date there is no evidence that the new strain of coronavirus causes more severe forms of the disease or has a higher mortality rate.

Due to the increase in the number of infected and the emergence of a new type of virus, Boris Johnson canceled a > Christmas in London and banned city residents from meeting friends and neighbors. The British government has decided to impose maximum restrictions in London and several regions in the south-east of England.

On December 14, UK Health Minister Matthew Hancock reported that a a new strain of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 that spreads faster than the original form. The virus spreads more easily from person to person and is therefore more contagious, he said.
