Woman had to return winning lottery ticket for 304 million

The court ordered a store employee from the American village of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, to return the winning lottery ticket, since it belongs to the supermarket where it was printed, reports the Newsweek edition.

On March 21, 2019, Beverlie Seltzer, who worked at the Acme store, took her shift and, after the results of the draw were announced, looked through the stack of receipts printed by the store by mistake. Among them, the saleswoman discovered a lucky ticket worth 4.15 million dollars (304 million rubles).

Then Zeltser passed another ticket through the cashier, for which she paid 10 dollars (733 rubles, and instead appropriated a winning ticket. The surveillance video shows how the American woman takes the ticket with her. She tried to get the prize, but during The lottery administration discovered a forgery and refused to pay the money. In the hope of getting hold of the jackpot, the saleswoman filed a lawsuit.

On Tuesday, December 15, 2020, a court hearing was held in the Zeltser case. During the hearing, Judge Mary Jane Bowes noted that Zeltser had misappropriated the ticket and ordered her to return it. “Acme became the owner of the winning ticket as soon as it was printed,” the judge ruled.

According to the lottery rules, shops must pay a commission for tickets printed by mistake, however, if they win, they may receive prize money.

Earlier it was reported that a plasterer from the English city of Leicester, Leicestershire, for a whole year he played the lottery with the same numbers, but on the day when they turned out to be winning, his girlfriend secretly entered other numbers on the ticket. After that, they quarreled and did not sleep all night because of chagrin.
