The Kharkiv authorities have reduced the number of mourning days, which were announced in connection with the death of the mayor Gennady Kernes , reports UNIAN .
Instead of three days of mourning will be two – December 17 and 18. Flags will be lowered in the city, entertainment and concert events and sports competitions will be canceled.
Kernes died at the age of 62 in the Berlin clinic “Charite”, where he received treatment after complications from the coronavirus.
The mayor has not appeared in public since the end of August. He was diagnosed with coronavirus and bilateral pneumonia. At the same time, Kernes was re-elected mayor of Kharkov for the third time in the local elections held in Ukraine on October 25.
Ukrainian businessman Pavel Fuks said that two weeks ago Kernes was “cheerful and happy”, but three days before his death he complained of pain in his heart.
