A resident of the US city of New Brockton, Alabama, celebrated her 108th birthday and shared the secret of longevity, reports The Southeast Sun.
Carrie Lee Reynolds – a descendant of the first black family , who settled in the city after the end of the American Civil War and the liberation of the slaves. In addition to her, the parents had nine more children. COVID-19 is the second major pandemic she has encountered. At the age of six, Reynolds survived the “Spanish flu” – a deadly flu that took the lives of tens of millions of people in 1918-1919.
The woman’s relatives living in different cities of the United States called her via video link to congratulate her on her anniversary, and the mayor of New Brockton staged a small parade in front of the long-liver’s house and handed over a symbolic key to the city. When Reynolds was asked how she managed to live to this age, she advised to believe in God, work hard, be kinder and not meddle in other people’s affairs.
Earlier, the oldest living American woman celebrated 116th birthday in surrounded by several generations of her family and also revealed the secret of her longevity. She has 12 children, 68 grandchildren, 125 great-grandchildren and 120 great-great-grandchildren. She is still able to move independently.
